Dear Internet,
I had no idea what a monumental undertaking it was going to be when I set out on this nearly 12 and a half minute journey of counting down the top TV show themes of my childhood. It makes me wonder if other great men such as myself knew what they were getting into when they began similar journeys. Did Neil Armstrong know how big of a deal the whole space travel thing was going to be? Did Columbus know that finding North America was way better than finding India? Did Brad Pitt’s father realize that one nut would create the perfect man? And did Charlie Sheen realize when he lost his virginity it was the only the first of over five thousand(that number is for real!) woman he would bang. (Sure we are all optimistic but usually it’s a win to convince that first girl to allow you another 90 seconds with her.)
So that everyone is in the proper frame of mind for the duration of this awesometown awesomeness, we will begin by watching a video that did not make my final list, but works perfectly to get the ball rolling.
Damn, what a nose that girl had on her. But that’s neither here nor there. Blossoms theme song contains the soul of childhood youth. The sun is surely gonna shine it says. Looking back at those times it feels as though the sun always was shinning. Summers that lasted forever with dial up internet, playing games from sunrise to sunset, calling parents from payphones (you have a call from: mom movies over pick me up!), and always smiling. Its my hope that before you are done, you find yourself smiling just as you did all those years ago.
I have learned 2 things while coming up with these top 9 TV themes from the 90s.
1st is just as my father claimed I was missing out on the good childhood TV, so are today’s youth.
2nd is that I must have liked Hanging With Mr. Cooper for its stellar acting because the theme song is God awful.

Honestly never liked the show that much myself, but I’m going to be looking for the theme song on iTunes. Never has something been so while hyped in an introduction only to disappoint once it began. Well besides this current Presidency and, on occasion, my performance in the bedroom.

Ben Stiller is bangin that girl towards the end. Well they are married, but they at least used to bang. Snapple Fun Fact #315, Salute Your Shorts nearly won this position on the countdown.

If you loved this show, and haven’t seen Mark-Paul Gosselaar on Jimmy Fallon then you’ve got to finish this blog, and only then go to youtube and find it.

This was the only song making the countdown with out words. Words make a theme song so much more memorable. I wanted Boy Meets World in the countdown, but its theme had no words and I’m pretty sure producers of that show reading this now are regretting it.
5 (poor quality, i know)
The only outro on my list. Turns out the intro isn’t a theme song as much as it was a tool to brainwash me. And all this time I thought I carried my own bags into the grocery store because I was a responsible human being.

Oddly enough this show is called Family Matters. Would have saved me a lot of time to know that. I just kept searching Steve Urkel Show. Tool Time is another show like that, turns out in the TV guide it went under the name Home Improvement.
3
For my money, when Michael Bolton sings When a Man Loves a Woman, well it just doesn’t get any better than that. But this is pretty high on my list too.

I think this actually a little dated to be on the list but it’s to good to exclude. If not for it being a little old, it would have been in the number one spot. Snapple Fun Fact #315 part B, this show has the best pilot for a TV show ever made, it too is on youtube in segments.

I know, I’m sure many of you are upset with this one. Well bite me. I love it and this is my list.
How do you post a top 9 of the 90s and not include the following:
-Fresh Prince of Bel Air

-Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

-Tailspin

-Step By Step

Great list with some very memorable songs. I get that you only have so many spots, just my opinion that you missed a couple classics.

Well Kyle, do not think I overlooked these theme songs you have submitted. I watched them each multiple times. In hind sight I wish I would have made this a top 10 list and included TMNT. I wanted to avoid this from getting to lengthy. (9 is more than I had planned on)
Otherwise I love Fresh Prince, but I felt like it was right there with Saved by the Bell and I should only choose one.
Tailspin was part of Disney Afternoons, I already have two shows from there in my list. Chip n Dale and Ducktales.
Step by Step, while a fantastic theme song, just was not tops in the TGIF lineup. I stand strongly behind Family Matters. Also, including Family Matters brought a certain amount of racial diversity to an otherwise homogeneous countdown.
The Wonder Years, freaking amazing, its a must on this list. That really hits the spot.
I dig it…the whole site. Good idea
Kyle if you saw Mark’s rendition of the family matters theme, you would crap yourself.
